I have been involved in Real Estate as a homeowner and in Real Estate Investments since the early 80’s. That was the time when interest rates were as high as 22%.  That was the time when people were panicking that they could not anymore afford to buy Real Estate due to high interest rates. That was the time when you could still buy a Vancouver Special house for less than $80,000.00.  Those were the days my friends.  


After several years of buying, selling and holding investment properties in Greater Vancouver, I would summarize the following lessons in Real Estate:  

1)      That Real Estate will almost double in value every 8 to 10 years (3 major Real Estate booms happened for the 30 year period with minor booms in between.) 

2)      That home ownership is still the best option to fight inflation;

3)      That Real Estate is the best way to leverage your money (imagine you can control Real Estate with only a down payment of 5% or even less  for creative investors).

4)      That most of the millionaires made their fortunes in Real Estate and or included Real Estate as part of their investments. 

5)      That Real Estate is not a quick money investment but follows the principle of buy and hold.
